In the March 23, 2007 press release announcing P.L. Thomas & Co., Inc.’s distribution agreement with Lipogen Ltd., the regulatory status of Lipogen’s Phosphatidylserine (PS) might be misunderstood as having received FDA GRAS affirmation.

We wish to clarify that Lipogen’s PS went through the self-affirmation GRAS process. Lipogen submitted its documentation supporting the GRAS status of its PS to the FDA. In July 2006, the FDA responded in detail stating that ‘the agency has no questions at this time regarding Lipogen’s conclusion.”

P.L. Thomas & Co., Inc. (PLT) and Lipogen Ltd. of Israel announced that PLT will distribute Lipogen’s Phosphatidylserine (PS). PLT will work actively with functional food and beverage companies throughout North America to incorporate this exciting ingredient, which has been closely studied for its positive effects on cognitive health.

In July 2006, FDA approved (“no questions”) the GRAS notification of Lipogen’s Phosphatidylserine (PS) patent-protected product line, produced through a unique “food friendly” process.  The efficacy of PS has been recognized by the FDA (May 2003) which allows for a qualified health claim for cognitive health.

As the baby boomer generation reaches retirement age, this major consumer group is increasingly receptive to doing everything possible to maximize their quality of life, including cognitive health.
