January 16, 2008 - 5-LOXIN® Maker Laila Impex Wins National Award for Outstanding In-house R&D Achievements in 2007

5-LOXIN is a new, patent-pending joint health ingredient that is steeped in the historic roots of boswellia serrata extracts. The boswellia plant has been used for thousands of years in traditional Ayurvedic medicine in India, and recent studies have shown its benefits in promoting joint comfort, knee mobility and walking distance.*

The application of modern science by the researchers at the renowned Laila Impex Research Center in India has resulted in the identification of the most powerful boswellia compound, acetyl-11-keto-beta boswellic acid, or AKBA.

The researchers then created a method using state-of-the-art manufacturing practices to produce a boswellia extract that provides 30% AKBA, ten times more concentrated than ordinary boswellia.

Published research supports 5-LOXIN’s mechanism of action and efficacy with in vitro and in vivo studies.  And these studies also show 5-LOXIN to help inhibit the action of enzymes that break down cartilage, which may provide a protective benefit.*

5-LOXIN® is the most potent boswellic acid available, providing 30% AKBA

  • Boswellic acids are natural, selective 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) enzyme inhibitors.  There are six boswellic acids; however, AKBA is the most active acid

  • The targeted inhibition of the 5-LOX enzyme may help promote joint function and mobility

  • 5-LOXIN is patent-pending, providing a higher concentration of AKBA  than other Boswellia serrata extracts, which typically contain only 2% - 3%

  • 5-LOXIN® was shown to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP’s), a class of enzymes that break down cartilage, collagen and connective tissues

  • 5-LOXIN® is safe - historic use and recent safety studies support its use
